Default How do I know if my weapon does max damage?

By listening to the trade posts and asking questions online i've figured out that max damage is when your item does the most damage possible and that they sell for a very high price. I am just wondering if there is any specific way of knowing what the max damage or defense is for a specific weapon or shield. Do you just have to know the maximum possible damage for every weapon, is there a cap that covers all weapons or is it written on the weapon itself? I would like to know this so that I can avoid salvaging a weapon when it could potentially be worth thousands. Another quick question is, what are collector's items? I hear you can apply upgrades to them. I have a couple of upgrades for a sword but I have no clue what I am supposed to do with them.

Thanks

Max damage/armor values:

Collectors: go run a search on them.

Upgrades: double-click on the upgrade, then click on the weapon you want to use it on.

First of all, if you have a weapon that is worth "thousands," I'd keep it to either use, or as you get better and know more, you may want to use with another character that you create. Secondly, I, also, wonder, by the questions you ask, if you understand the subtleties of which runes to add to your armor. You may want to do a search, or look in the armor section and articles section of this web site to gain knowlege of this aspect of the game. You, also, add a rune to your armor by double clicking on the rune and then clicking on that piece of armor. As a basic rule, any addon gets added by double clicking the modifier and then clicking the item being enhanced.

One of the great things about this game is the amount of tweaking you can do to your character and weapons to get the best possible character. There is no one way and everyone has their own playing style so that what works for one person may not work for another. You have to adopt what you learn to your style of play.

Now, to further clarify: The upgrades you talk about are called modifiers, simply refered to as mods. Swords, Axes, Hammers, Bows, and Staffs can all be modified, or enhanced. They all have two places where they can be enhanced. Axes can have Grips and Hafts. This is denoted in the title of the weapon. "Sundering Great Axe of Fortitude" tells you that the axe has a "sundering" axe haft and a "fortitude" grip. Learn what the modifiers are for each weapon, escpecially so you won't overwrite your perfect mod with a lesser one when you think you are adding a second one. You can have 2 mods on a weapon, but, you can't have 2 mods of the same type. In the example above you can have 1 grip and 1 haft, but not 2 grips.

For the second part of your question: Weapons values are somewhat determined by the additional damage that weapon's do. There are various damage enhancements that a weapon may or may not have. This is the damage line that comes after the initial damage and req line. You need to learn what these are and again, I wouldn't be so concerned about what something is worth vs getting a good weapon for yourself to use. That would help keep you from being one of the countless n00bs that post totally worthless items at overinflated prices on the auction sites.

In this section of the trade forum you can find the listings for the most desirable damage enhancements and a listing of modifiers for each weapon.
